Vocabulary/Spelling- Each week the students will have a spelling (Words Their Way) test or Wordly Wise test on Friday. The weeks will alternate (week 1-spelling and week 2-Wordly Wise, etc.). All spelling tests are on odd weeks (# of sort being worked on in Words Their Way workbook) . You will find links to Wordly Wise (Quizlet) vocabulary words and Spelling City (Words Their Way) on the resources tab.
* There will be a Words Their Way 23 (spelling) test on Friday, February 22nd.
* There will be a test on Wordly Wise lesson 11 (vocabulary) on Friday, February 15th.
Reading- During Reading Workshop, students will prove their new learning by applying skills from the mini lessons and completing teacher selected assignments. There may be graphic organizers, anchor charts, etc. that may be taken for a grade. Your child will also complete some assessments in the format of short passage questions on various days. Your child will be a "reading detective" and use skills we have been working on in class to be a "close reader" with reading passages, including nonfiction texts. There is no studying required for this.
Writing- Writing assessments will consist of a pre and post as we encounter each unit of study (different genre) following the Writing Workshop program. Students will also be assessed on paragraph and summary throughout the year as well. Assessed pieces will be returned with an attached rubric.
Math- Math tests will fall at the end of each chapter. See Curriculum Update page for exact dates. Please note that other assessments (mid chapter check points, pop quizzes, etc.) may be given without advanced notice.
Science- Students will get assessed during the evaluation portion of each NGSS Science Scope. At the end of each scope, students will take a multiple choice test as well as a CER test (claim, evidence, reason). They will receive a standards based grade on these assessments (1-3) to notify parents and students whether they are meeting grade level standards. There will not be traditional study guides or test dates like the past.
Social Studies- Students will receive a study guide from 4-7 days prior to social studies tests. Study guides will be completed in class, and are meant to be used at home as a tool to study from. Plan on your child testing every 2 to 4 weeks depending on the particular unit we are covering. We will go over the new learning in various modalities and students will have plenty of exposure to the new learning prior to being tested. On the test day, the study guide and note packet are to be complete and turned in.
